OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Suspect Dr. Jose Menendez 102810 Dr. Jose Menendez Dr. Jose Menendez An Osceola County doctor was arrested Thursday as part of a conspiracy to traffic in oxycodone, the sheriff's office said. The Osceola County Investigative Bureau and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested 45-year-old Dr. Jose Menendez months after their investigation began following receiving information in May about a drug trafficking operation.
During an undercover operation on October 26, Tyrone Anderson and William Frank Sellers were arrested on charges they were involved in drug trafficking. Agents recovered 56 prescriptions for 18 different patients.
As a result of the arrests, agents obtained search warrants in Sarasota County that uncovered marijuana, weapons, cash, hundreds of empty pill bottles and around 2,000 pills. Of those pills, 200 were oxycodone and most listed Dr. Menendez as the prescribing doctor.
"It's a dope operation. It's no different than the crack cocaine business," Osceola County Sheriff Bob Hansell said.
A search warrant was then issued for Physicians Care Partners on Southport Road in Osceola County (see map), where Menendez is employed. During questioning, agents say, Menendez cooperated.
On Thursday, October 28, a warrant was issued for the doctor's arrest for conspiracy to traffic oxycodone. He was arrested and booked in the Osceola County jail on no bond.
Menendez has no criminal history in Florida and his license with the state is active. There are no complaints or disciplinary action on his record.
