ORLANDO, Fla. — A state emergency order announced Friday will have a major impact on elementary and high school students in Florida.
Documents show high stakes testing is on hiatus as tests like the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) will not be used like normal.

This means the tests will not be required for promotion to the 4th grade or graduation.

If a student did well in class and met the other requirements the district can waive the end of course assessment requirement.

The FSA test alone will also not be used to hold back a 3rd grader from moving on to 4th grade.
This week, kids across Florida started sitting for the FSA. Now some stakes associated with the tests are getting waived thanks to the order signed by the commissioner of education.
The state said districts still have to evaluate students.

Orange County Public Schools said teachers can use homework, other assessments, in class tests and of course interaction to determine if a student is ready to move on.
The order also said no school or district grades based on tests this year. However, districts that think they’ve improved can opt in for a grade if they want.
