UCF lays out plan to keep students, faculty safe in return to campus

ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Central Florida can expect campus life to be a lot different when the fall semester starts.

UCF President Alexander Cartwright wants everyone to operate remotely after the Thanksgiving break. With many students usually leaving campus for the holiday, he doesn’t want anyone potentially returning to school with the virus.

The school plans to resume in-person classes beginning August 24 at a limited capacity.

A number of changes will be put in place to keep students, faculty and staff safe from the coronavirus.

During a virtual town hall meeting, Cartwright mentioned crews have been sanitizing the campus. The university has ordered 1,200 extra hand sanitizing stations. Touchless devices will also be available in bathrooms and plexiglass dividers in public facing areas like front desks.

Faculty will be encouraged to offer online materials and those who can will be asked to work from home.
