Abrams ran for Governor of Georgia after spending 10 years in the Georgia State House.
There were some accusations of voter suppression against her opponent, then Secretary of State Brian Kemp, as hundreds of thousands of voter registrations were purged in the leadup to the election.
A judge ruled Kemp had violated the Help America Vote Act, but Abrams chose not to challenge the election, instead focusing on restoring voting rights.
