GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Dwayne Bacon scored 24 points, including a jumper with 4.6 seconds remaining, and lifted Florida State to a 73-71 win against rival Florida on Tuesday night.
Bacon made 9 of 17 shots, none bigger than the final one from the top of the lane.
The Seminoles (10-2) needed it to hold of Florida (8-4) and KeVaughn Allen. The freshman scored a career-high 32 points on 10-of-18 shooting, but he missed his final five shots, including an open 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining that would have given the Gators their first lead since early in the game.
Allen helped Florida rally from a 13-point deficit in the second half and tie it in the closing minute. Dorian Finney-Smith's layup made it 71-all with 23 seconds to play, but the Seminoles called timeout and drew up a play for Bacon. He curled off a screen and sank the jumper.
