Judge Scolds Lawyers In UCF Player Death Trial

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Lawyers for both parties in the trial of a wrongful death lawsuit against UCF were scolded by the judge on Tuesday for too many arguments back and forth.

Judge Robert Evans spent the first hour on Tuesday sorting out defense objections and a long list of depositions taken in connection to the March 18, 2008 death of the UCF football player, Ereck Plancher .

Since the trial is already under way, Evans warned both sides that they need to work out any last-minute differences away from the bench, or there would be consequences.

"You guys focus on me, you won't like the sanctions. I don't know what it'll be. It may be walking on the road picking up trash," said Evans.

Tuesday's testimony showed that Plancher may or may not have known about a positive test for the sickle cell trait. The condition can restrict blood flow to the organs and an autopsy showed that Plancher died of an abnormal heart rhythm. Officials said sickle cell was a contributing factor.

The jury is viewing recorded depositions.
