The developer of a $100 million retail project in Viera told Orlando Business Journal the addition of Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market -- its newly announced co-anchor tenant -- is more than just the leasing of a high-profile, high-end grocery store.

Rather, the addition of the Amazon-owned chain represents a component essential to the 30-acre The Crossings at Viera retail project getting off the ground in the first place.

“I think [Whole Foods] is the linchpin for this project moving forward,” said Jeff Garrison, principal for Atlanta-based SJC Ventures, the firm behind the 190,000-square-foot development. “The Viera Co. has been very clear that they wanted to have a grocery anchor on this site.”
