CHARELSTON, S.C. — More than $145,000 worth of toys that contained a dangerous amount of lead were seized at the Port of Charleston, South Carolina, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Authorities said a shipment of 4,424 ski scooters arrived at the seaport in January and were selected for examination.
The snow sled toys were manufactured in Taiwan and were going to be sent to a toy distributor.
Customs officials found the toys contained an excess of lead, which is harmful to people.
“Preventing dangerous imported goods from entering our communities is a top CBP priority,” said Joanne Fogg acting Charleston Area port director. “The dangers lead contamination pose to our children are well documented. I’m proud of the work our officers have done in partnering with CPSC personnel to keep our communities safe.”
