WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — One of several Seminole County teens accused of raping a fellow high school student last month is expected to bond out of jail after being granted $35,000 bond Friday.
Detectives believe Torreano Batton and five friends raped the 16-year-old in the woods next to Winter Springs High School.
Torreano Batton was ordered to wear a GPS monitor if he's able to post bond.
The judge also said Torreano Batton will not be allowed to go back to Winter Springs High School, talk to his co-defendants or the 16-year-old girl he is accused of raping.
Torreano Batton's uncle, Walter Batton, testified that he picked his nephew up before the rape that was allegedly videotaped in the woods across from the high school.
"Would you be willing to supervise him after he gets released?" the judge asked Torreano Batton's uncle.
"Yes," he replied.
The uncle was also ordered to report any violations to the court.
"I think the judge made a number of conditions of his release that will assure the public safety and assure that he will appear in all future court appearances," said Torreano Batton's public defender, Jeff Dowdy. "He is just happy he got his bond reduced; The family couldn't make it before. Now it has been reduced to $35,000. Hopefully he will be able to bond out and get Mr. Batton back into school, which he wants."
Investigators said one of their best pieces of evidence is a video of the alleged crime, but Torreano Batton's attorney said his client is not on the video.
"We have witnesses and evidence that is going to show he left McDonald's with his uncle, so that would have occurred before this videotaping," said Dowdy.
Torreano Batton claims he is innocent and said he just wants to go back to school.
