2 teens arrested in robbery, chase that ended with crash in Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A high-speed chase in Volusia County ended with a stolen car crashing into a tree and two robbery suspects behind bars, police said.

Monday's chase ended with the crash at U.S. 1 and Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach.

Officers tracked the car down after they said teenagers robbed a man in Daytona Beach.

Police followed the suspects into Ormond Beach, where they used stop sticks to deflate the car's tires, causing the vehicle to crash into a tree.

With his hands cuffed, Malik Campbell, 18, was paraded out in his orange jumpsuit in front of a judge Tuesday afternoon.

Daytona Beach police also arrested Campbell's alleged accomplice, Exavius Ware, 16.

It all began in a parking lot near the Mayan Inn on Ocean Avenue in Daytona Beach Monday at about 11 p.m.

“It was just scary last night, very scary,” said victim Ernest Williams.

Williams said he was heading to his truck after finishing up his shift at the inn when he saw a car speed past him then go in reverse.

That's when Williams said two teenagers got out of the car, pointed a gun at him and demanded money.

“I didn’t know if they were going to shoot me because I

Didn’t have any money on me and just remained calm and did what they said,” Williams said.

Williams memorized the plate number and called police.

Police followed the suspects to U.S. 1 and Granada Boulevard where officers laid out stop sticks and punctured the car's tires.

Williams said he's happy the suspects were caught.

“I’m glad to be alive because it could have went either way. It was real, real surreal last night,” Williams said.

The teens are charged with robbery.

Ware is also charged with grand theft, and fleeing.
