ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando concert was so loud that people who live more than a mile away called 911 to complain about it, Channel 9 learned.
More than 6,000 fans flocked to downtown Orlando for the Safe In Sound festival Friday night at Firestone Live on North Orange Avenue.
It wasn’t long after the music began that complaints began to pour in.
On Tuesday, the club's owner told Channel 9 he's going to make some changes.
Call after call came in to 911 dispatchers Friday night from residents upset with the loud music. Nearby residents claimed the music from the club was so loud their windows were rattling.
"I've lived here for going on two years now and I have never heard whatever is coming from over there," one caller said. "It sounds like loud bass coming from a club or something."
"It's so loud it's literally shaking the wall," another caller said.
Organizers of the Safe In Sound event said it had 150,000 watts of sound, and according to Firestone's website, more than 6,000 people showed up.
Jan Harrold, who owns Firestone, said he never goes above the decibels set by the city ordinance. He said code enforcement was at the club Friday night and said he was within the limits.
Harrold said he shut it down around midnight. Moving forward, Harrold said he'll stop the outdoor events at 11 p.m. instead.
Residents told Channel 9 they called Commissioner Patti Sheehan to complain. Channel 9's Shannon Butler asked Sheehan what plans, if any, there are for both sides to coexist. She did not return our calls.
