An Ocala man claims the Honda he bought new four years ago now looks like it belongs in a junkyard, because the paint is failing.
He said Honda has refused to cover the cost of repairs, even though it is admitted that some vehicle coatings are defective.
Martin Lang claims the red paint on his 2010 Honda Civic is cracking and peeling.
"You don't expect it to come off a car that only has 46,000," Lang said.
In a service bulletin, Honda admitted paint on some civics failed, so it extended warranty coverage to seven years and said it would repaint defective areas for free.
Martin took his car into a Honda dealership.
"He said, 'Wait a minute. We looked your car up and it's not included. I don't really understand,'" Lang said.
According to Action 9's Todd Ulrich, what Honda agreed to is complicated. Its free repair offer only covers certain panels and paint colors. It only covers the hood and fenders -- and only blue, black and gray colors.

Ulrich had repair expert Jay Zembower examine Lang's vehicle. He found the cracking had already spread to more areas.
"Is this defective paint?" Ulrich asked Zembower.
"Absolutely. This is clearly a paint quality issue that should be addressed," Zembower said.
Zembower's opinion was backed up by a Marion County body shop. It measured the paint thickness and found the defect consistent with other Civics it has repaired under Honda's warranty.
With that evidence, Honda offered to pay 50 percent for repainting. Lang said, "No,"
"Why would I do that when they paid for all the others under the extended warranty at 100 percent," Lang said.
A representative from Honda's corporate office told Ulrich that Honda is reviewing Lang's complaint.
"Absolutely they should cover it," Lang said.
Honda has extended the warranty for 2006 to 2012 Civics, some CRVs, Pilots and Odysseys.
Consumer Reports tells customers to challenge Honda if they can prove the paint is defective.
