ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida shoppers looking to get a jump on holiday gifts, home upgrades or everyday essentials may want to keep an eye on Amazon next week.

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, scheduled for Oct. 6-7, offers member-only discounts on electronics, toys, kitchen items, clothing, beauty, and home goods.

While called October Prime Day, it is separate from Amazon’s summer Prime Day. For Orlando, Kissimmee, Sanford, and the Space Coast, it arrives during a busy period: hurricane season, upcoming holiday shopping, and retailers vying for fall spending.

What time do Amazon’s deals start?

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days are expected to begin at 3 a.m. Eastern time on Oct. 6 — midnight on the West Coast — and run through Oct. 7.

That means Central Florida shoppers who want to chase the most limited offers may want to browse early, particularly for popular electronics, smart-home devices and name-brand kitchen appliances.

Do you need Amazon Prime?

Yes. Prime Big Deal Days discounts are intended for Amazon Prime members, though not every item on Amazon will be discounted during the event.

Amazon Prime costs $14.99/month or $139/year. Eligible young adults and those on qualifying government assistance may access discounts.

What could be worth watching?

Early Prime-related discounts have already appeared on items that could appeal to Central Florida households, including:

  • Smart doorbells and home-security accessories.
  • Robot vacuums, air fryers and other kitchen or cleaning products.
  • Outdoor gear, generators and home-preparedness items.
  • TVs, laptops, headphones and other consumer electronics.
  • Toys and giftable items ahead of the holiday season.

Some early deals highlighted ahead of the event include discounts on Ring doorbells, robot vacuums, air fryers and smart-home equipment. But a large displayed percentage off does not always mean the item is at its best price of the year, so shoppers should check an item’s price history or compare it with competing retailers before buying.

Tips for Central Florida shoppers

Before clicking “Buy Now,” consider a few practical steps:

  • Make a list of needed items — especially holiday gifts, apartment essentials or larger home purchases — to avoid buying solely because a deal looks urgent.
  • Compare Amazon’s sale price with Walmart, Target, Best Buy and the manufacturer’s website. Competing fall sales often overlap with Amazon’s event.
  • Watch for delivery timing if buying gifts or supplies needed before a trip, event or holiday gathering.
  • Be cautious with third-party sellers. Review the seller’s rating, return policy and whether Amazon fulfills the order.
  • For hurricane-season preparedness purchases, prioritize equipment that meets your actual needs rather than buying a product only because it is marked down.
