Animal cruelty investigation underway after dog, cat found dead at Port Orange apartment complex

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — An animal cruelty investigation is underway after the bodies of a dog and a cat were found days apart at an apartment complex, the Port Orange Police Department said Wednesday.

Animal control officers were called Friday to the Ashton Point apartments on South Williamson Boulevard near Airport Road after a resident reported that the family dog had died under suspicious circumstances, Port Orange police Officer Evan Doyle said.

Animal control officers were called to the complex again Tuesday after someone found a cat's body in bushes, Doyle said.

"No visible trauma was observed on the cat," Doyle said. "The circumstances are also considered suspicious in nature."

The deaths remain under investigation.

No other details were given.

Anyone who has information about the incidents is asked to call Port Orange police Detective Carl Lamirande at 386-506-5886.
