Orlando man accused of killing wife, sister denied bond

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando man accused of killing his wife and her sister while they slept was denied bond Friday.

Authorities arrested Hubert Gantt, 31, on Thursday.

Sisters Felicia Dortch and Alberta Walker were sleeping in their Orlando apartment when they were both shot in the head Wednesday, police said.

A baby was sleeping in the bed with one of the victims while several other children were in a separate room.

"I don't wish the feeling on no one," said neighbor Yessenia Rodriguez.

Gantt was dating Dortch, authorities said. He's facing first-degree murder charges.

According to reports, the suspect called 911 after the shooting and turned himself in, but after that, detectives said he denied everything.

Newly released records detail the discovery of the two women.

Dortch’s daughter told detectives she woke up to the screams of her 5-month-old step-brother.

When the teen went to check on him in her mom’s room, she found Dortch shot in the head.

The teen yelled for Walker’s help, but she too was killed.

The victims’ relatives said Gantt had recently been using the drug Molly a lot, which would make him paranoid and combative.

They said he thought Dortch was cheating on him while Walker was trying to break them up.

The relatives said they witnessed multiple acts of domestic violence against Dortch, but those incidents were never reported.

Detectives said the day before the killings, Gantt called the police department’s Assault and Battery unit, asking if he has any pending domestic violence cases.

When the detective said Gantt did not, the 31-year-old’s friend said he hung up and said, “I got all I need,” while simultaneously pointing his index finger to his temple and making a recoiling firearm motion to his head.

The next night, Gantt and Dortch watched the movie, “The Perfect Guy”, which is about an obsessive ex-boyfriend.

Gannts friend said he bought Molly shortly before the Wednesday morning shooting.

Gannt called 911 and tried to turn himself in, but then said he left his house to find drugs and was nowhere near the crime scene.

"He didn't seem like the type of person. I would see him cleaning, taking out the trash, taking the kids to school, picking them up," Rodriguez said.

Channel 9 learned Gantt was arrested on domestic violence charges in Orange County three years ago, but the charges were dropped. A few years before that, he pleaded guilty to aggravated battery.
