Woman, child killed in Melbourne boating accident

MELBOURNE, Fla. — A boat capsized near the Eau Gallie Causeway in Melbourne, killing a woman and child.

Bystanders were seen jumping in to help rescue the six people on board the 18-foot boat.

Rescue officials performed CPR on the woman and male child right before they were rushed to the Holmes Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

Officials said weather was likely the reason the boat capsized, with 3-foot waves pounding against the vessel.

Florida Fish and Wildlife is handling the investigation

The victims were not identified.
