Burglars tie up, rob man in Orange Co. retirement community

Orange County deputies are working to find two men behind a violent home invasion at a community for people 55 and older.
The robbers stormed a home on Ronson Avenue this weekend and tied up a homeowner in the Silver Star Village Community near Pine Hills.

The community is fenced in, but neighbors said crime in surrounding neighborhoods is bad.

"Inside this place, we feel safe. We don't dare go out at night," said neighbor Dave Burpe.

But neighbors said they have reason to be concerned after two men pulled a violent home invasion.

The homeowner didn't want to talk to WFTV, but neighbors said the victim is an elderly man who answered the door while his wife slept.

Neighbors said the robber cut the cord off a ceiling fan and used it to tie the victim up, then pointed the knife into his victim's back and threatened to kill him.

"(A) guy with a mustache went in the house, took him down and tied him up," said Burpe.

Sheriff's deputies swarmed the neighborhood, but the robbers were already gone.

Neighbors said a surveillance camera likely captured the robbers' license plate if they drove into the community.

So far, investigators aren't releasing much information about the crime.

The victim described the robbers as a white man and a black man with a mustache. They took a laptop, a television and some cash.
