ORLANDO, Fla. — The annual CANstruction competition returns this Saturday, Oct. 3, at Dezerland Park Orlando, bringing together local teams of architects and engineers to create large-scale canned food sculptures.
The event benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
This year’s competition features the theme “America the Build-iful,” challenging corporate teams to transform thousands of food cans into displays honoring people, places, symbols and stories that have shaped the nation.
The structures will be on public display at Dezerland Park on International Drive through Oct. 18 during regular operating hours.
In Central Florida, one in seven residents is at risk of experiencing hunger. The issue affects younger populations as well, with one in five local children facing food insecurity.
To address this need, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida relies on a network of more than 800 community partners.
Through these partnerships, the organization distributes enough food to provide 300,000 meals every day to local residents.
The displays will be taken down on Sunday, Oct. 18. All nonperishable food items used in the structures will then be donated directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
