Central Florida drivers rush to get faulty air bags replaced

CENTRAL FLORIDA — Central Florida dealerships are dealing with drivers who want to get potentially deadly air bags replaced immediately.

The recall on vehicles with Takata airbags was expanded to include nearly 8 million cars, truck and SUVs.

When the air bags go off, they explode like roadside bombs, officials said.

Many drivers are concerned.

“It affects everybody. Not just me, but everybody on the road,” said driver Gerry Inmon.

At Classic Honda on West Colonial Drive in Orange County, a worker said dozens of people have called to ask about the recall and several stopped in to get the repair.

Autonation Toyota in Winter Park has fixed 12 vehicles in the past couple of weeks.

Fields BMW was alerted to the recall Wednesday and will replace the air bags if needed.
