ORLANDO, Fla. — The city has prohibited swan feeding at Lake Eola, WFTV found out on Wednesday.
The city isn't handing out fines, but they are stressing the importance of proper diets for the swans.
Officials said bread crusts, popcorn and chips are bad for the animals.
The swans eat too much white bread and other processed carbohydrates, officials said, and the processed foods don't offer much nutrition.
The city is promoting a different diet that includes leafy green vegetables or duck pellets, which is bird seed for water fowl. The same diet works for all the birds in the park and it's healthier.
The city has a handful of signs up to remind people not to feed the swans, and the city said it plans to install dispensers so visitors can pop in a quarter or two and get a hand full of pellets.
