LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Stanley Almodovar III was one of 49 people killed June 12 when a gunman entered Pulse nightclub in Orlando and opened fire.
To honor Almodovar’s memory and his actions the night of the shooting, Clermont Mayor Gail L. Ash has released a proclamation declaring Tuesday, “Stanley Almodovar III Day.”

In the proclamation, Ash condemned the Pulse nightclub attack, which also injured 53 people, calling it “cowardly.”
Almodovar, on the other hand, was the opposite, the proclamation said.
“Stanley Almodovar III heroically saved lives on June 12 by shielding others at Pulse nightclub and putting himself in harm’s way, ultimately sacrificing his life,” it said.
Ash is expected to announce the proclamation during Tuesday’s Clermont City Council meeting.
