SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Loved ones, co-workers and strangers rallied together to raise thousands of dollars for the recovery of a woman who was injured in an airboat accident in Seminole County.
One month ago, Vickie Cruz was with her boyfriend, brother and two other women on an airboat in Lake Jesup.
The nighttime crash killed Mark Cruz and Joel Arnold.
The women survived, but Vickie Cruz was critically injured.
“She just loves life and these people show they love her just as much as she loves them all,” said Abby McClain, a cousin of Vickie and Mark Cruz. “When it happened, I lost my cousin. When my other cousin was in critical condition, it was very hard.”
Vickie Cruz has been recovering in the hospital since the accident.
Though she’s made remarkable progress, medical bills are mounting for the elementary school teacher.
“Vickie has passion for kids. Her children lover her and are heartbroken she’s not at work right now,” said Carroll Grimando, the principal of Vickie Cruz’s school. “She’s a great friend, family member, a phenomenal teacher and she’s a beautiful person.”
The fundraiser was held at Rock Springs Bar and Grill in Apopka.
