Community wants an end to violence after 18-year-old woman shot in Winter Garden

WINTER GARDEN, FA — The 18-year-old female victim of a drive-by shooting was identified Thursday.

Scout Lyons was shot in the back Wednesday in the 5200 block of Old Winter Garden Road as she was getting into her car after eating at a restaurant.

Witnesses said the shooter sprayed the entire parking lot with bullets.

Lyons was struck in the back and rushed to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.%

The bullets also struck five cars, some of which has people inside, including a mother and her toddler.

The gunmen took off and still have not been found.

Chris Spradley works in a nearby barber shop and said it’s the second time he’s seen a crime unfold outside his job.

Last year, two people were shot in a similar way.

“It hurts the entire block area. It makes people afraid to come down here because they’re afraid that something is going to happen to them,” Spradley said.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies have responded to the plaza more than 33 times over the past year; five times for violent crimes, like aggravated battery, a carjacking, and Wednesday’s attempted murder.

Spradley said he doesn’t believe the crime is limited to the plaza, he believes the community is overcome with violence.

He said he believes deputies are doing their jobs, but they’re outmanned, and he said he thinks the community needs to do more to put an end to the violence.

“We have to stand up and save our kids. If we don’t save our kids, they are going to fall to the wayside and be dead by gunfire,” Spradley said.
