• Kissimmee man beats elderly woman, yells, 'I defeated the devil,' witnesses say

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Channel 9 has learned a 19-year-old in Kissimmee beat an elderly woman because he thought she was the devil, authorities said.

Deputies said the alleged attack happened shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday at a home on Orne Court.

Deputies said Scott Pierre tried to kick open the door, then broke through the window, which set off an alarm at the home.

Neighbor Barbara Shider said she heard the alarm and woke up.

"I jumped up, let the window up, let the curtain up," said Shider. "He grabbed her out of her house, over to his house and was beating her on the ground."

Shider said she wanted to help the 72-year-old victim but can't because she's confined to a wheelchair.

Witnesses said Pierre kicked the woman in the head repeatedly and then yelled, "I defeated the devil."

"Like, you run and kick a football, he ran and kicked her in the head and jumped on her back," one witness said.

Channel 9 went to Pierre's house, where his mother answered the door.

"I don't know what happened," Pierre's mother told Channel 9. "I cannot give you no information because I don't know what happened."

Pierre's mother said her son doesn't have a history of mental illness and she doesn't believe he was using drugs.

Authorities said they are investigating to see if Pierre was under the influence of drugs. They said he will likely be charged with attempted murder.

The victim suffered serious injuries in the attack, authorities said.
