Creative Village breaking ground next year

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Creative Village has been touted as a game changer for the Parramore community.

A fence has been up around the 68 acres, but no buildings have broken ground yet. Channel 9’s Deneige Broom learned that ground will be broken next year, and buildings will be up by 2019.

Terry Avenue is a brand new street that's been carved out here for Creative Village.

Late last year, Nap Ford Community Charter School found out its lease along Livingston Street wouldn't be renewed by the city of Orlando to make way for Creative Village.

School leaders were looking to move their 150 kids two miles away to Kaley Square.

But Eyewitness News found out from the city of Orlando, the school was given an extra year because UCF leaders realized they wouldn't need the land just yet.

So Eyewitness News asked where the timeline for Creative Village stands.

A city of Orlando spokesperson said one of the first things done will be to break ground on an affordable housing development next year near Amelia Street and Parramore Avenue.

Also next year, crews plan to break ground on a $60 million education building and parking garage at Livingston and the newly created Terry Avenue.

Those buildings, along with student housing, are scheduled to open in 2019.

The UCF campus will only take up a part of the 6- acre site. The rest of the site, known as Creative Village, is set to include affordable housing, retail and office space. However, plans for those components don't have deadlines yet.

The two parcels that still need to be cleared in order to use all 68 acres are the city's tennis center complex and the long-standing Nap Ford Charter, which has educated kids for almost 15 years.
