Daytona Beach leaders to vote on outlet mall project

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — City commissioners will vote Wednesday on whether a $100 million outlet mall will come to Daytona Beach.

The developers want taxpayers to help them get the project going and Wednesday night’s vote is crucial to make the outlet mall happen.

If approved, the new zoning of a portion of 200 acres near Interstate 95 and LGPA Boulevard would allow tax dollars to help pay for the $16 million cost of building a storm water system and other utilities for the new outlet mall.

Tanger, the company behind the project, has stated the mall would be 400,000 square feet and would create 800 jobs, bringing in a minimum of $120 million in revenue.

The company reports it would generate $34 million for Daytona Beach's general fund over a 30-year period.

One city commissioner said if the vote doesn't go through then the outlet mall project likely will not become a reality.
