Deputies: Merritt Island man recorded himself sexually abusing toddler

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — A Merritt Island man was arrested Tuesday on allegations that he sexually abused a toddler and recorded the incident.

Investigators believe Joshua Tatro, 23, could have more victims.

Deputies received information from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children that the images had been uploaded and shared on the internet from a home in Brevard County.

Sheriff’s agents with the Sexual Offender Registration Tracking Unit researched the images and discovered they were taken at Tatro’s home.

While casing the home on Fiddler Avenue, agents saw Tatro walk into the house with an infant.

Deputies obtained a search warrant and found videos of Tatro sexually abusing the toddler.

“We were doing surveillance and preparing search warrants when one of the agents observed a child going into the residence that was in the age group we were told had been uploaded,” said Major Rod Goodyear, of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. “We immediately got a search warrant for the residence, went in and started our investigation of the residence.”

Based on what deputies found, they believe there could be more young victims.

The evidence also led agents to the infant seen in the images, who they took to the hospital.

Tatro was arrested on three charges of sexual battery, three counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child porn.

He is being held in the Brevard County Jail on no bond.
