• Deputies: Polk County lawyer jailed on meth charges

POLK COUNTY, Fla. - A Polk County defense attorney is in jail on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, investigators said.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's investigators, William "Bill" Evans of Bartow was involved in a minor traffic crash Wednesday.

Investigators said when deputies responded to the crash a K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs in Evans' car.

Detectives searched the car and found a bag with meth and a glass pipe with meth residue, investigators said.

According to investigators, a warrant was issued and detectives searched Evans' home where they found items needed to cook meth, as well as drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

Investigators said Evans and his wife were arrested in 1996 for manufacturing and selling meth.

Evans spent a year in federal prison.

Evans is in the Polk County Jail on no bond.
