VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man arrested on a DUI charge managed to escape his holding cell, sparking an hourlong search, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel Brown, 39, was pulled over at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday for a burned-out taillight.
The deputy said nthat when Brown got out of his car, he was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.
Deputies made Brown perform a sobriety test and then took him to the Sheriff’s Office’s Deltona headquarters on Providence Boulevard for processing.
Brown somehow managed to slip out of his handcuffs, which secured him to a bench in a holding cell, and escaped out the back door, deputies said.
A sheriff’s office K-9 tracked down Brown about an hour later. Deputies said Brown was hiding in some bushes on Providence Boulevard and was bitten by the K-9.
Brown was treated at the hospital for his injuries, then taken to the Volusia County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
