VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A wanted man who fled from Volusia County deputies was arrested Wednesday night after a K-9 and drone units found him hiding in palm fronds at Canaveral National Seashore.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies encountered 37-year-old Bradford Kanan while responding to a suspicious person call near South Atlantic Avenue around 6 p.m.

Deputies said Kanan refused to get out of his vehicle and fled, eventually abandoning the vehicle near the Canaveral National Seashore boat ramp and hiding.

The sheriff’s office said K-9 teams, drones and Air One searched for Kanan before finding him shortly before 9 p.m.

Deputies said Kanan fought with the K-9 during his arrest. Investigators said he had also claimed to be armed and threatened to shoot deputies, but no weapon was found.

Kanan faces charges including aggravated assault, battery on a K-9, fleeing and resisting, along with an outstanding domestic violence warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said Kanan was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being transported to jail.
