ORLANDO, Fla. — A developer will hold a meeting Thursday evening for residents and business owners to discuss his plan to construct a $50 million 10-story building in Ivanhoe Village.

The meeting, which isn’t open to the general public, is planned for 6:30 p.m. at the Marks Street Senior Recreation Complex.

The mixed-use complex, which would include 275 residential units, would replace the Baldwin Fairchild funeral home near Ivanhoe Boulevard and North Orange Avenue. The building was constructed in 1940.

Documents submitted to the city by Alliance Realty show that the proposed mid-rise, named Broadstone Lakehouse, would also feature a parking garage.

Jimmy Tasfornias, owner of The Greek Corner, said he welcomes the redevelopment.

“I think it’s going to be excellent,” he said. “I think it will be nice for the neighborhood. It's going to be nice for the [businesses] around here. It's going to improve our neighborhood a lot, so we have no problem.”

Others are on the fence about the proposed building, which would tower over the quaint shopping and dining district near Lake Ivanhoe.

“I hope they put a lot of thought into before they do it,” resident Jeff Alberts said. “I think it’s got some serious issues that could definitely create problems for the people [who] do want to live here and work here.”

Alberts said he’s concerned that such a large development could cause traffic woes in the neighborhood.

The city will consider approving the project next month.
