New documents detail alleged 'Hello Kitty' rape cases

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Documents released in an Orange County man's multiple rape and attempted rape cases reveal new details about the alleged crimes.

Edgar Collazo is facing sexual battery charges in at least three separate cases in Orange County, records show. He is scheduled to go to trial in one of those cases in April.

After his arrests, Collazo was dubbed the "Hello Kitty rapist" because of a tattoo he has of the fictional character. An image of the tattoo was among the evidence released to Eyewitness News.

The documents detail an alleged attack at a college student's home in 2010. The woman woke up to find Collazo allegedly standing over her with a knife. She tried to fight off Collazo and ran to the kitchen to grab a knife, the reports says.  The woman was able to eventually get help.

"We have to make a decision at that exact moment when something's happening. 'What am I going to do? How am I going to keep myself alive?'" said Theresa Zephirin, with the Victim Service Center.

The college student told police that all of the doors and windows of her apartment were locked, and she didn't know how Collazo allegedly got inside.

Investigators said they linked Collazo to the 2010 case after an attempted rape in an IHOP parking lot in 2014. It was DNA evidence that connected Collazo to the previous cases, according to authorities.

Collazo's attorney told Channel 9 he wouldn't comment publicly about the cases until the trial begins.
