LAKE MARY, Fla. — Authorities said two men who broke into an upscale Lake Mary home on Webster Street Monday, were met with gunfire.
The homeowner, John E. Davies, fired two shots at the crooks when they broke in.
Late Monday afternoon authorities said they were interviewing a person of interest who was being treated for a gunshot wound in a Brevard County hospital.
Davies has a concealed weapons permit and is a former auxiliary Kissimmee police officer, police said.
The two men escaped, possibly in a car, according to police, but not before leaving damage behind.
The two crooks smashed the back sliding glass door of Davies' home with the handle of their gun, according to police.
As soon as Davies heard the shattering, he said he came out of his bedroom with his gun and fired two shots.
"I aimed in their general direction the first shot I heard nothing, the second shot there was the sound of some breaking glass," Davies said.
Police told WFTV Davies will not face any charges because he is the victim in the case.
"They didn't say anything, they just ran. I fired as soon as I saw them at the broken glass door. They completely shattered that door into 10,000 pieces," said Davies.
Police said it's possible one of them could be injured either by the shot or the broken glass.
Officers called area hospitals to see if anyone was being treated for injuries that might have resulted from the incident.
