Ex-UCF star running back Kevin Smith arrested on campus

ORLANDO, Fla. — Former University of Central Florida running back Kevin Smith is facing charges stemming from a crash over the weekend.

An officer responding to the crash scene said Smith, who played in the NFL for the Detroit Lions, was improperly backing, driving with a suspended license and left the scene of an accident without providing information.

On Wednesday, an officer made contact with Smith outside of a classroom on campus and told him he was investigating a crash from over the weekend. Smith replied that the officer couldn’t be investigating a crash because there wasn’t one.

The officer explained the first citation for improperly backing and the options to take care of it. Smith refused to sign the infraction and the officer noted that on the signature line.

While explaining the second citation for driving without a license, the officer said Smith told him he had to go and began to walk away. When the officer told Smith to wait so he could give him the citation, Smith continued to walk away, the report says.

The officer dropped his paperwork and arrested Smith for resisting and obstructing an officer without violence.
