PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. — An alligator that attacked a woman while she was swimming in Brevard County on Saturday has been captured, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
FWC officials said the alligator is 8 feet six inches long and was found in a pond three miles west of Fay Lake Wilderness Park in Port St. John.
Officials said 26-year-old Melbourne resident Nichole Tilman was bitten by the alligator at about 2:40 p.m. while swimming and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A nuisance alligator trapper was contacted and was able to remove the alligator from the location.
Officials have not said what happened to the alligator after it was removed.
People with concerns about an alligator should call FWC’s toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).
