JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities said an 8-year-old Jacksonville boy died after a rope swing wrapped around his neck as he played on an obstacle course while his brother practiced football nearby.
The child's little sister found him on the ground about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday at The Bolles School's Bartram Road campus, according to The Florida Times-Union. Their father was watching football practice, authorities said.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Shawn Coarsey said the little girl first thought her brother was clowning around, so she tickled him, but got no response.
The newspaper reports a couple of doctors who were among the parents watching football practice rushed over to help the child, but he was already dead.
The sheriff's office did not release the child's name. They continue to investigate.
