Palm Coast man killed wife and himself in domestic murder-suicide

Deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office investigated a murder-suicide on Weyanoke Lane in Palm Coast

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide at a Palm Coast home that left a husband and wife dead Wednesday night.

Multiple 911 calls reported a shooting at a Weyanoke Lane home around 10:18 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies arrived within five minutes and found 55-year-old Rakim-Shakur Brooks dead in the garage from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Inside the home, deputies discovered Dawn Estrella, 47, with multiple gunshot wounds in a bedroom. Despite efforts to save her, Estrella was pronounced dead at 10:34 p.m., officials reported.

Two other people inside the home were not hurt.

Investigators said Brooks shot Estrella several times after an argument before taking his own life. The couple married in March 2024 but had been separating, according to the sheriff’s office. They had been in a relationship for about nine years.

“Our prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragic and senseless violence,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Sadly, this is the second domestic-related murder-suicide we’ve investigated in the last few weeks.”

Detectives are investigating how Brooks, a convicted felon, obtained the gun used in the shooting. Authorities said the firearm was not reported stolen.

Anyone experiencing domestic violence can contact the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office at 386-313-4911, call 911 in an emergency or contact the Family Life Center’s 24-hour crisis line by call or text at 386-437-3505.
