Despite the growing numbers, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday that he does not have plans to put a statewide mask mandate in place.
Instead, he said he’ll let individual counties make the decision whether to put mask policies in effect and continue to do public service announcements to remind people that they need to social distance and follow the CDC guidelines.
He said many of the people who test positive have no symptoms. Many in recent days are also younger, much younger than the state has seen before.
In Orange County, the median age of those testing positive for the virus is 29 and Seminole County it is 26.
“Now I think what you are seeing particularly in Tampa Bay and Central Florida is these are more community cases with younger people,” DeSantis said.
