ORLANDO, Fla. — Floridians appear to be searching for plenty of help with cracked screens, water-damaged devices and other technology problems.
A new analysis from printed circuit board manufacturer OurPCB ranked Florida sixth in the country on its “Tech-Wreck Index.”
The company analyzed 4,972 Google search terms related to accidental technology damage between March 2025 and February 2026. Researchers combined that search activity with U.S. Census Bureau data on electronics repair businesses.
Florida residents conducted an estimated 501,400 searches related to technology damage during the study period, according to the analysis. That was second only to California and amounted to about 2,137 searches per 100,000 residents.
The study also counted 854 consumer electronics repair shops in Florida, giving the state 3.64 shops per 100,000 residents. Researchers said that was the highest per-capita rate in the country and about 56% above the national rate.
Florida received an overall Tech-Wreck score of 66.54.
Nevada topped the ranking, followed by Montana, Wyoming, New Hampshire and Georgia.

“This index looks at how often people search for help after damaging their devices and how many repair shops there are to fix them,” OurPCB founder Hommer Zhao said. “Together, those numbers show that tech accidents are part of everyday life and that many people choose to repair rather than replace.”
The ranking does not directly count damaged devices, repair claims or individual customers. Search activity could also reflect people researching repair prices, troubleshooting problems or looking for help with devices damaged by someone else.
The Census Bureau’s broader electronic and precision equipment repair category includes businesses that service consumer electronics, computers, communication equipment and other electronic devices.
