Florida’s death toll surpasses 15K as state reports another 139 deaths linked to COVID-19

ORLANDO, Fla. — Another 139 people in Florida have died from coronavirus-related illness, the Florida Department of Health announced Wednesday.

The daily data shows a sharp increase compared to those reported Tuesday, when 59 deaths were noted by state officials.

Since the pandemic began, Florida’s death toll has climbed to 15,084.

That number includes 14,904 state residents and 180 non-residents.

Wednesday’s data also revealed 36 local residents among the latest casualties, including 10 from Polk County, six from Volusia County, four each from Orange, Osceola and Marion counties, two each from Brevard and Flagler counties, and one from Seminole County.

As for cases of the virus, state health officials reported 2,582 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, an increase from the 2,251 listed in Monday’s data.

The total number of cases in Florida now stands at 722,707, since the pandemic began.

Osceola: 12,899 (+53) - 168 deaths (+4)

Seminole: 9,309 (+31) - 229 deaths (+1)

Polk: 20,687 (+100) - 542 deaths (+10)

Volusia: 11,235 (+45) - 271 deaths (+6)

Brevard: 9,568 (+57) - 311 deaths (+2)

Flagler: 1,812 (+5) - 31 deaths (+2)

Lake: 7,770 (+41) - 199 deaths (+3)

Marion: 10,024 (+16) - 311 deaths (+4)

Sumter: 2,495 (+14) - 73 deaths (+0)
