KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A former Kissimmee radiology center that officials say performed mammograms without a license for at least six years has been banned from the Medicaid program.
Alba Garcia and Oscar Alzate are each serving a three-year prison sentence after they were convicted of charges that included Medicaid fraud and running an unlicensed clinic.
State investigators said the pair billed Medicaid for $180,000 worth of radiology services that were never performed at Digital Radiology Center in Kissimmee.
Some of the patients listed on the Medicaid forms had never actually visited the office, state records say.
The clinic first came to investigators’ attention in 2007 with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent a letter to the business saying proper mammogram procedures were not being followed.
State officials said they were unsure how the clinic was able to operate for so long without a license and were investigating the incident.
