ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The former creative director at Universal Studios is suing Walt Disney World.

The lawsuit alleges that Disney stole his idea when it created Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and at Disneyland in California.

The plaintiff listed in the lawsuit, Raven Sun Creative, said its chief creative officer, Louis Alfieri, owns a patent for a ride that moves riders in coordination with a video presentation, as utilized in a portion of Rise of the Resistance.

The patent was issued in February 2016.

The company says Rise of the Resistance uses the design laid out in that 2016 patent.

Raven Sun Creative said it submitted a proposal to Disney in 2014 with the design, but was never consulted on or compensated for the ride.

A spokesman for Walt Disney Imagineering said, “We believe the claims are without merit, and we look forward to vigorously defending against them in court.”
