FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. — Two Fruitland Park police officers have been placed on administrative leave as the result of an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, police officials said Wednesday.
Interim Fruitland Park police chief Todd English, also a captain with the Lake County Sheriff's Department, said he was surprised when he learned that there was an investigation into two of his officers.
"The FDLE contacted me. They've been investigating an incident or investigating issues with the Fruitland Park Police Department since prior to my arrival," said English.
He said because it is a criminal investigation he has launched his own internal investigation and placed the two officers on paid administrative leave.
"They will be held fully accountable, should there be any wrongdoing," English said.
English told Channel 9's Myrt Price that he can't disclose much information about the case, including the names of the officers who have been suspended and what FDLE investigators are looking into.
Price contacted several city leaders, none whom would comment on the investigation.
The police department has 13 full-time officers.
