TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The family of an Orlando-area man who was severely injured in a Florida State University campus shooting spoke publicly Monday, thanking the officers who took down the gunman.
They said 21-year-old Farhan Ahmed, who goes by the name "Ronny," is now paralyzed from the waist down.
Ahmed's sister, Farhana Ahmed, spoke about her brother, an aspiring biomedical engineer, and his love of science. She talked about how the Lake Highland Prep graduate had big plans to help others through science.
"His focus on biomed engineering is to do good in the world," said Farhana Ahmed.

Police said gunman, identified as Myron May, changed the 21-year-old's life in an instant when May shot Ronny Ahmed three times.
"Ronny knew immediately something was wrong. (A bullet) struck his spine and left him paralyzed from the waist down," said Farhana Ahmed.
Ahmed's sister says his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious condition. He was one of three people shot that night.
The other two victims have since been released from hospitals.
Investigators said May was paranoid and in a state of crisis.
It took officers only two minutes to respond to the gunfire, shooting and killing May.
Ahmed's sister said her brother owed his life to the officers who took down the gunman.
"I know the first people on scene were police, and Ronny was saved by quickness of their actions," said Farhana Ahmed.
Ronny Ahmed's sister said he still plans to finish school and get his degree from FSU.
School officials said they will do everything they can to support him along the way.
