Groveland mayor resigns

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The mayor of Groveland said he suddenly resigned because he didn't like what was going on inside the city's government in Lake County.

Mayor Jim Gearhart announced his resignation Wednesday afternoon.

He was already at the center of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation over allegations of aggressive behavior and asking city staff to remove incriminating emails from his computer.

In a resignation letter Eyewitness News obtained earlier Wednesday evening, Gearhart said, in part, "It has become brutally apparent the politics of Groveland are not interested in truth, loyalty to the citizens, and an efficiently-managed city."
