Winter Park breaks ground on new Seven Oaks Park

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Winter Park broke ground on its newest greenspace on Thursday.

The city held a ceremonial groundbreaking at 10 a.m. at the corner of Denning Drive and Orange Avenue, which will be the home of the new Seven Oaks Park.

The city said the name honors the seven large live oaks planted on the property in March of last year.

“It is not often a built-out city can add greenspace to its core and we look forward to breaking ground on this property,” Mayor Phil Anderson said.

Anderson said the grand opening of the park is expected to be early next year.

The property where the park is being built was formerly referred to as Progress Point, which was owned by an investor-owned utility and sold to private developers.

City officials said the land was later traded to the city in a land-swap for other city-owned property.
