Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected across Central Florida today

CENTRAL FLA. — Another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms is possible during the afternoon and the evening.

The typical summer seabreeze storms will be in full swing this afternoon.

Your first chance of rain will come in the early afternoon. However, the best chance of rain will be in the late afternoon and early evening. That’s also the time frame to watch out for the strongest thunderstorms.

The main threats in these storms will be heavy rain, wind gusts up to 40 mph, and frequent lightning.

Severe weather cannot be ruled out, but it does not seem likely for most of central Florida.

Some locations could see as much as 2 inches of rainfall this afternoon. These kinds of numbers are expected to occur in isolated areas between Orlando and the Atlantic coast.

Temperatures will continue to top out in the low 90s with a slight heat index.

We’re not tracking any major pattern shifts over the next week.
