For Rich Mahaley, the vice president and general manager of Kansas City, Missouri-based Burns & McDonnell’s operations in Florida, outgrowing its still-new Melbourne office is part of a bigger plan.

The employee-owned engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting firm will host a ribbon-cutting and open house for its 3,500-square-foot office at 6767 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne on April 4.

The lease it signed for the space is for three years, which is on the shorter end of the typical office lease length, and that was purposeful, he said -- as was the choice to secure a space where they may have the option to add space.
