DeLand police identify suspect after man found shot to death inside car near therapy office

DeLAND, Fla. — The body of a man who had been shot to death was discovered Thursday morning in a car, the DeLand Police Department said.

The body of a man who had been shot to death was discovered Thursday morning in a car, the DeLand Police Department said.

DeLand police announced Friday morning that a suspect has been arrested after a man was found dead inside a car on Thursday.

Police said Travis McBride is charged with premeditated first-degree murder.

Officers said McBride is currently being held at the Volusia County Jail.

Police said they were called shortly after 7 a.m. to a home at South Frankfort and East New York avenues after gunfire was reported.

Investigators said they discovered shell casings and blood in the street and the man’s body in a car.

They said they discovered a suspect nearby and took him into custody.

“Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public,” a police spokeswoman said. “The deceased individual’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next-of-kin.”

Detectives focused much of their investigation Thursday on a therapy office at a nearby business complex.

Channel 9 was there when investigators used a hammer to break the front window of the office so they could climb inside.

Police have not said how the office is connected to their investigation.

Investigators said they will release more details about the death once they determine the circumstances surrounding it.
