ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — It’s almost duck season, and people along Lake Conway in Orange County will have to deal with the hunters every year.
Eyewitness News reported in February that residents found ammo casings on their docks and said hunters were too close for comfort.
The mayor of Belle Isle told Channel 9’s Shannon Butler that duck hunting is allowed in the area.
The issue for most is not the killing of ducks but that the hunting is happening so close to homes, residents said.
For months, residents tried to get the hunters removed from Lake Conway.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is expected to tell residents Tuesday night at its meeting that hunting along Lake Conway is legal.
“They are going to pretty much have to learn now to live with these people. There’s nothing we can do to stop it, unfortunately,” said Belle Isle Mayor Lydia Pisano.
Residents said they plan to put more boats on the lake during duck hunting season to scare away ducks and in hopes that hunters will leave.
The FWC meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Charter School.
